Jewish Community Action (JCA) knows that real conversations and deep listening are essential for building a stronger and more just community. Traditionally, Jewish study takes place together in pairs (chevruta), emphasizing that our best learning takes place face-to-face, in honest dialogue. We want to bring the spirit of chevruta to an organizing context. Deep Canvassing, which you may be familiar with as the method used around the state five years ago during the successful “Vote No” Marriage Amendment campaign, has been proven to change hearts and minds.
Systems of privilege and oppression often make connecting across barriers hard and create distance between people who could be powerful partners. In a political climate that seems ever-more acrimonious, we believe in the importance of engaging across differences to learn and grow with each other from a common base of shared values. Join us this summer and fall to connect with people at the doors about real, meaningful, issues of criminal justice and race in our communities.
