Jewish Community Action Works to Improve
Conditions in Kosher Food Industry
Jewish Community Action is honored to work with the Hekhsher Tzedek
Commission in their new initiative to improve the working conditions,
treatment of employees, environmental standards, and business practices
in kosher food-producing businesses.
The mission of the Hekhsher Tzedek Commission is to bring the Jewish
commitment to ethics and social justice directly into the marketplace --
and the home. The Commission’s seal of approval, the Magen Tzedek, will
help assure consumers that kosher food products were produced in keeping
with the highest possible Jewish ethical values and ideals for social
justice in the area of labor concerns, animal welfare, environmental
impact, consumer issues and corporate integrity.
The Hekhsher Tzedek Commission is a joint project of the Rabbinical
Assembly and the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. Seed funding
is provided by the Nathan Cummings Foundation.
Jewish Community Action works with the Hekhsher Tzedek Commission to
educate, involve and engage the local Jewish community and to
demonstrate to producers that our community cares about the conditions
under which our food is produced.
