The Organizing Director will provide vision and leadership to JCA’s campaign work, creating a vision for campaigns that both move progressive policy and resonate within the Jewish community and engage members, and will supervise and support the organizing team in executing that vision. The Organizing Director is a senior position, reporting to the Executive Director, and will be responsible for key relationships with partners, elected officials, and clergy.


Job Description

Working with Executive Director to create a vision for campaigns that both move progressive policy and resonate within the Jewish community and engage members, and to ground JCA's work in Jewish values, texts, and traditions;

Supervising the organizing team: providing mentorship, guidance and overall coordination of issue campaigns and JCA’s organizing program; ensuring that work is strategic, coordinated, timely, engaging, and well integrated into the overall organization;

Supporting the organizing team in developing leaders and building the capacity of our members, clergy, and synagogue and institutional leadership to take action through campaigns and local initiatives for social, racial, and economic justice;

Working with Executive Director to represent JCA at coalition tables, in the legislature, with allies and within the Jewish community, and representing JCA within national networks of Jewish social justice organizations;

Supervising and supporting staff in developing and implementing organizing and leadership development training for synagogues, our members, and the broader community;

Overseeing the planning and organizing of public events, playing both leadership and supporting roles in turnout, setting up public meetings, and conducting pre-meetings with members;

Engaging organizing team in organization-wide priorities such as member engagement, annual events, and in membership development and grassroots fundraising activities;

Overseeing research on issue campaigns and legislative issues;

Staffing the Community Building and Organizing Committee of the Board of Directors, Working with the board and staff in identifying issue campaigns and coalition opportunities for JCA;

Working with communications staff and the organizing team to promote and amplify A and our members through social media, action alerts, and other related press materials.


Required Qualifications:

At least 5 years’ experience in community organizing, preferably in economic and/or racial justice, or social justice issues related to affordable housing, community development, immigration;

Supervisory experience;

Excellent communications skills, written and spoken;

Training and leadership development skills;

Ability to facilitate meetings;

Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects;

Ability to work independently, self initiative;

Team oriented, ability to work with diverse groups;

Lobbying and government relations experience


Preferred Qualifications:

Supervisory and mentoring experience;

Experience working with a board of directors;

Previous experience with Jewish communal organizations;

Proficiency with Google applications;

Experience with an online CRM database for member management


Other Information:

The Organizing Director will ideally begin no later June 1, 2017.

This is a full time position, salary commensurate with experience
