Board of Directors

Ralph Bernstein has been an active member of the twin cities Jewish community since 1996 when he and his family relocated from Baltimore, Maryland. A banker by trade, Bernstein is a principal in RS3 Solutions, Inc. where he works with financial services companies and banks, helping them establish credit card and other payment products both domestically and in Europe. He is a member of Bet Shalom congregation in Minnetonka, where he has served on the board of trustees and held executive committee positions as treasurer and vice president

Carol Bromer served as president of Adath Jeshurun Congregation and chair of its Chesed Committee. Active in JCA since its early years, Carol has been especially committed to affordable housing. Recently she chaired the joint Adath Jeshurun—Jewish Community Action Inreach. As a new member of the JCA board, Carol will continue her involvement with JCA’s Community Leadership Team and will bring longstanding knowledge about social justice and the Jewish community.

Dan Cramer is the co-founder of grassroots solutions, a consulting firm that specializes in grassroots advocacy, field consulting, training and targeting. Dan has developed and led grassroots trainings and planning sessions for clients across the country.  He specializes in working with organizations, coalitions and associations to leverage their existing resources, expand their grassroots capacity, and build sustainable grassroots advocacy infrastructures.

Rick Chase works as a consulting scientist at the Amherst H.Wilder Foundation. He has more than 20 years of experience working with diverse community groups and government agencies to design and carry out studies and to establish ongoing systems of program improvement and evaluation. Rick has served on the board of Temple Israel, as chair of its Social Action Committee, and co-chair of JCA's community reinvestment initiative.

Steven Foldes is Senior Research Investigator at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota. Steven is a board member of Beth Jacob Congregation (Conservative), where he recently led the research and evaluation process that led to the adoption of a new dues structure.

Rabbi Simeon Glaser, Associate Rabbi, Temple Israel (Reform). An accomplished guitarist and singer/songwriter, Rabbi Glaser is a recent addition to JCA’s board. He attended Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, held a rabbinical position in Connecticut, and continues to work on music, social justice, teaching children and adults, and leading a very large Reform congregation.

Margaret Levin works as a community organizer with the Sierra Club - North Star Chapter and is a member of JCA's Indie Jews Leadership Team. Since moving to Minnesota in 2000 she has been an organizer with the Minnesota Senior Federation, MPIRG, and Americorps VISTA. She is also a longtime volunteer leader with Amnesty International. Margaret grew up in St. Louis and holds a BA in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Missouri.

Judi Marshall is a member of Mount Zion Congregation, where she has served on its Board of Directors, and has helped lead Mount Zion’s partnership with Project Home, an overflow shelter hosted by the congregation.  Recently, Judi facilitated a unique JCA – Mount Zion collaboration: a series of social justice house parties and summit, which was awarded JCA’s Wellstone Call to Justice Award.  Judi is a dentist with a graduate degree in Health Care Research, Policy, and Administration.

Leonard Oppenheimer, Senior Product Manager for Financial Performance Management software at Cognos. Prior to joining Cognos, Leonard worked in public sector financial management for Metro Transit; the Cleveland Bureau of Jewish Education; and the city of Cleveland Heights. He holds an MBA in public nonprofit management, finance, and industrial relations from the University of Chicago. Leonard is a founding member of Beth Jacob Congregation (Conservative).

Julie L. Plaut has been an active member of JCA since 1999; soon after moving to the Twin Cities, she attended a Tzedakah Institute for unaffiliated Jews and then joined the Racial Justice Working Group.  Previously Associate Director of Minnesota Campus Compact, Julie now leads academic initiatives for the national office of Campus Compact; her work focuses on engaging college students, faculty, and staff with communities to address important public issues and advance higher education’s civic purposes.  She is a member of the youthrive Board as well as Chair of the JCA Board (on leave until July 2008).

Reva Rosenbloom, former president of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation and chair of Rimon, the Minnesota Jewish Arts Council. Reva was a producer of the video "We Knew Who We Were: Memories of the Minneapolis Jewish North Side." She was also a docent at the Minneapolis Institute of Art for 20 years and is currently a docent at the Weisman Museum. Formerly the owner of Epitome in the Galleria, Reva is a member of both Temple Israel and Adath Jeshurun.

Danny Schwartzman, a graduate of Macalester College, has experience in community organizing and has coordinated several political campaigns. He owns Common Roots, a coffee shop and gathering place in south Minneapolis.  He is active in Jewish Community Action's Indie Jews and Community Reinvestment Working Group.

Art Serotoff, Programs Director at Sabathani Community Center. Art graduated from Cornell University and New York University, worked for 15 years at the United Way, and completed a full year program in Leadership for Community Renewal at the University of St. Thomas.

Andy Slavitt is chief executive officer of Ingenix, a leading health information and technology company with over 5,500 people in over 45 countries worldwide. Previously, Andy served as chief executive officer of the consumer solutions business of UnitedHealth Group; was founder of HealthAllies, one of the first consumer health care benefits companies; and was chief operating officer and director of Paula Financial, an employee benefits insurance company. Andy serves on the international board of advisors for Habitat for Humanity and on the board of the Council for Affordable Quality Health Care. He is a member of Temple Israel (Reform).

Judith Tennebaum, a consultant specializing in research and program evaluation for public and nonprofit organizations. She also facilitates strategic planning and needs assessments. Much of her recent work has centered on Twin Cities employment and transportation programs for low-income job seekers. Judy is a member of Adath Jeshurun (Conservative) and Shir Tikvah (Reform).
